In Germany, there is a legal registration requirement: the new residence must be registered with the relevant residents’ registration office (Einwohnermeldeamt/Bürgeramt) within 14 days of moving in (Federal Registration Act). For duty-free import of removal goods, German customs requires proof of the change of residence and that the items brought along have already been in personal use for at least six months.
